Economic Issues - Causes and effects of Imperialism
During this time period, Sierra Leone wasn't an independent country and was owned by the British Empire, they provided goods for England. Cocoa and coffee were the main goods that the Sierra Leoneans exported. Agriculture and mining were the main sources of wealth the British and Sierra Leone relied on. They mostly mined diamond and iron ore. Because Sierra Leone was under Britain's rule, Britain provided sources for them. Years later, when they fought for their independence they were left uneducated and in poverty without England. Ever since Sierra Leone became independent, they were in poverty and improvements havn't been made to this day. 95% of the water there is used for farming today. 90% of food is imported from other countries. Since Sierra Leone gained independence, the poverty rate hasn't changed drastically after imperialism.
